The customer was intended to make a small dental drill and needed a very small profile membrane switch to act as a turn on turn off switch (Tact Membrane Switch) with LED illumination. The membrane switch better have a rubber cover to keep the inside clean of debris. The membrane switch must be tactile.

We started prototypes after communicating details with customer, we thought the button with obvious click sound was enough, but when the customer tested the samples, and responded the key was too hard, because when end users press a lot, fingers will be very tired, so the current design was not successful. We started to change the design from material, product structure, and tried several times, but still didnt get customers satisfaction. The membrane switch is too small! We were very limited on this. Later we came up with another idea, which is to lengthen the air slot inside. This was a good idea.The button feels obvious, but it is easy to press down. In addition to solving the hand feel problem, we also adjusted the position of the led to ensure that the led will not be disturbed by the button and affect the life!

In the first batch order stage, and there came up with some new problems: when membrane switch was affixed to the plastic shell, in the location of the outlet line, user felt uneven by hand. We responded immediately and improved the design in time, but the problem was not completely solved. Later, when we compared the plastic shell sent to us by the customer, we found that the plastic shell produced in batch, size was out of tolerance, which was inconsistent with the size of sample, so that our products could not be used. Since we found the reason, as the manufacturer of membrane switch, We immediately adjusted the position of the outlet and made new samples to help the customer to reduce the maximum loss and promote the development of the project. In addition, the customer reported that the offset of our key printing was obvious. We had negotiated with customer to let the membrane switch pass if the deviation is within 0.2mm.
The final product satisfied the customer and has been mass produced.Customer's products are also on the shelves!
